Industrial Technology and Management students have a wide range of careers both while in school and after they graduate. The majority of INTM students and graduates work in the manufacturing sector but their jobs cut across all of our specializations. Manufacturing employers range from large global manufacturing companies to small local businesses and suppliers. Employers come to INTM seeking students who are skilled in project management, inventory management, data analytics, sustainable practices, and technology integration.
There are three ways for INTM students and alumni to learn about job opportunities:
- Directly from INTM - INTM encourages employers to contact us seeking job candidates with skills or coursework that matches their specific needs. We circulate these job opportunities via email to all active students and alumni who have graduated within the past three years.
- Social Media – INTM has a LinkedIn® group made up of alumni, current students, faculty, and INTM industry partners. The primary purpose is for discussion of industry trends and sharing of news and information relevant to the group members. Employers may request to join and get access to post opportunities in the IIT Industrial Technology and Management Group jobs section.
- IIT Career Services - All INTM students and graduates have access to the array of University resources including career coaching, workshops and events, and general as well as twice annual career fairs and occasional industry-specific hiring events. All IIT students also have access to “Handshake,” an online career management application with numerous job search tools including resume review and matching for specific jobs. Check IIT Career Services website for more information and calendar of events.
Alumni who would like to be added to the email list after three years should contact Pam Houser at 312.567.3650 or firstname.lastname@example.org.
INTM CAREER ADVISING AND networking OPPORTUNITIES
INTM Adjunct Professor Herb Shields serves as the program’s designated Career Advisor. Shields runs a Job Search Workshop for INTM students at least once per year, drawing from his expertise as a hiring manager and industry executive. He is also available to meet individually by appointment with any student(s) or Alum who is actively looking for a job, internship, co-op or full-time position.
Employers who wish to have a job opening posted through INTM should send an email request to Herb Shields at email@example.com.
INTM highly encourages students to pursue professional development and networking while in school through involvement in IIT Student Chapters of professional organizations. INTM supports the activities of three student chapters of national organizations focused on supply chain and the electrical industry. These are student-led groups whose members organize site visits and opportunities to work with professionals on special projects, participate in competitions, and attend local and national conferences.
