Extracurricular Activities

Going Beyond the Classroom

Plant tours, job search support, career development, communications, presentations, and analytical skills workshops are among INTM’s extracurricular offerings. INTM faculty, alumni, professional associations, and industry partners all participate in facilitating learning experiences outside of the classroom.

Tours of Industrial Facilities

INTM facilitates student opportunities to visit manufacturing and distribution facilities throughout the Chicagoland area. Group tours are organized by student chapters of professional associations (see below).  INTM helps support the efforts of three Illinois Tech Student Chapters: APICS, the Council of Supply Chain Management Professionals (CSCMP), and the National Electrical Contractors Association (NECA).  INTM faculty and alumni also arrange special tours for students to include discussion time with company representatives.

Professional Skills Workshops

Students can extend their professional skills by participating in three workshops offered by INTM:

  • Job Search Strategies, conducted by INTM’s Career Development Advisor, Herb Shields
  • Minitab Statistical Analysis Software, conducted by INTM Adjunct Faculty, Rama Shankar
  • Conducting Technical Presentations, conducted by Adjunct Faculty, Dan Tomal

The Technical Presentations workshop is also available on DVD in Illinois Tech's Galvin Library, and used in INTM courses with presentations.
