Jeremy Hajek, industry associate professor in the School of Applied Technology, was tapped as a media expert in the “Channel 2 CBS Chicago Investigators” segment of the “CBS 2 News Morning” show on September 23. The segment “App for Convenient Parking Often Comes with a Catch,” featuring reporter Dorothy Tucker, looked at the problem of parking tickets being issued to drivers using the ParkChicago app who still had ample time left on their meters. App managers replied that “in rare instances, sometimes wireless connectivity between a parking enforcement official’s tablet and the main database runs slow.” The reporting team discovered nearly 7,500 tickets had been dismissed since 2014 because they had been incorrectly issued. Hajek says that the solution is a matter of communication between ParkChicago and its wireless providers.
“To make sure that all of the zones where traffic enforcement is being done have adequate wireless connectivity,” Hajek noted in the report.
