Tracey McGee is the Director of English Language Services. Her major responsibilities include program design, program administration, program recruitment for the Intensive English Program, and supervision of department staff. Ms. McGee earned her M.A. in Linguistics with a concentration in ESL from Northeastern Illinois University and her B.S. in Mass Communications and Broadcast Production from Middle Tennessee State University. Prior to graduate school, she spent two years working as a Peace Corps volunteer in the West African country of Niger, where she spoke the language Zarma.
Jason Romano has been in the field of Teaching English to Speakers of Other Languages for more than 10 years. His responsibilities include program design, program administration, curriculum design, and supervision of department faculty. Mr. Romano holds a Master’s Degree in Linguistics from the University of Illinois at Chicago and was an English Teaching Assistant in Spain with the Fulbright Program. He has extensive experience as an instructor and administrator for English language programs. He has served as a board member for the Chicago Chapter of the Fulbright Alumni Association as well as presented at various conferences throughout his career. He is a trained CEA site reviewer and has also served as the self-study coordinator for the accreditation process at his institution.
Michael is a part-time student at Illinois Tech studying Applied Mathematics with a Math and Science Education minor. He's in his fourth year and planning to graduate in 2020. When he's not studying, he likes to read and write fiction and is a big fan of Steven King's Dark Tower series. Michael has relevant experience working with international students having worked for International Certificates since 2014 assisting with student admissions, enrollment, orientation, commencement, and more.

Houston-area native, Ms. Cole received her MA degree in Teaching English as a Second Language from Northeastern Illinois University; she also holds an MBA from Thunderbird School of Global Management. While living abroad for over a decade, Ms. Cole worked as a public relations specialist, marketing manager, and cross-cultural consultant for major businesses and international firms. Additionally, her travels have included studying abroad while living with host families in Spain, Italy, and France. Ms. Cole speaks Spanish fluently and has studied Spanish, Mandarin, and German.
Beth holds an M.A. in Linguistics with a concentration in TESOL and a B.A. in Corporate/Organizational Communication. Her first experience teaching abroad was in Spain where her interests in intercultural exchanges and teaching/learning languages began. After returning to school to get her MA, she took a job with Samsung Human Resources Development Center teaching business executives in South Korea. Her latest experience teaching overseas was as an English Language Fellow through the Department of State and Georgetown University in Jordan teaching at the University of Jordan, conducting teacher training sessions in public schools, and developing a summer camp curriculum taught by Peace Corps Volunteers. Besides teaching, she is interested in other cultures, traveling both domestically and internationally, and practicing yoga.
Ms. Johnson studied English at the University of Michigan, and continued her graduate studies at Florida International University, earning an M.S. in Applied Linguistics and Teaching English to Speakers of Other Languages. Additionally, Ms. Johnson completed an Intensive Spanish Language course with the National Foreign Affairs Training Center in Arlington, Virginia. While living in Latin America, Ms. Johnson taught English as a Foreign Language and Business English courses at the Universidad del Pacifico in Lima, Peru. After moving to Mexico, Ms. Johnson, a fluent Spanish speaker, served as a consular associate at the United States Embassy in Mexico City. Upon her return to Chicago, Ms. Johnson began teaching English as a Second Language courses at Triton College.
Renata Phelps received her degrees from Adam Mickiewicz University in Poznań, Poland. She
also holds a B.A. from the Northeastern Illinois University. She has been teaching ESL and EFL
since 2005. She spent several years teaching English in her native country, Poland, specializing in
working with adult students and teaching test preparation courses. Between 2010 and 2014, she
taught academic English at the Intensive English Program at Southern Illinois University in
Carbondale. She has been with English Language Services at Illinois Institute of Technology
since August of 2014. Having been an international student in the United
States, Ms. Phelps appreciates the opportunity to help the international students she works with.
