About the International Program

About the International Certificate Program at Illinois Tech

The International Certificate Program at Illinois Tech is the program of choice for students wanting to combine both academic and English language training. The program is also utilized by many as a study-abroad experience in the United States. The Certificate Program is 60% academic study and 40% English training (ESL).* An optional six week internship is available to those who successfully complete the program.

Students come to Illinois Tech's International Certificate Program for many reasons:

  • As a study abroad experience, while completing studies in their home country.
  • To become better candidates for master's and undergraduate programs.
  • To experience life in the United States and improve their English in a respected school of technology
  • To obtain valuable internship opportunities and professional experience

 * Students fluent in English may not need to take the English courses. A test may be required if English is not the student's first language.

Where Will I study?

You have two choices:

  1. Come to the beautiful city of Chicago on an F1 Visa and study at the Illinois Tech Campus
  2. Stay at home and take three online courses in Information Technology or Industrial Technology to complete your certificate. Contact the program manager for more details.

What Can I Study?

The program is built on a 3 + 2 model. Each semester, students take three courses from their academic major area of study and two English courses. Since the courses you will be taking could be higher-level university classes, we recommend applicants to have completed at least one year of university.

Students can choose a major area of study from one of the following:

Major Area of Study Description
Information Technology and Management The Information Technology and Management program is designed to broaden and deepen the student's knowledge of new and emerging information technologies, the application and integration of these technologies, and the administrative practices used in the effective management of these technologies.
Industrial Technology and Management Students apply what they learn in class to solve real industrial management problems, using innovative systems and production methods.  The Industrial Technology and Management (INTM) program prepares you to be a leader in industry.
Food Science The Department of Food Science and Nutrition is part of IIT’s School of Applied Technology, and provides an environment where scientists from industry, academia, and government pool their scientific expertise and institutional perspectives to ensure the production of safe, wholesome foods.
Business At IIT, our students learn business in a hands-on, innovative way that prepares them for careers in finance, management, marketing, or to launch their own entrepreneurial ventures.

The additional English courses can be chosen from the following topics: Reading, Writing, Speaking, or Listening.

For more information about the academic, English, or internship courses, please see our About Courses page.
